SUMMER WORKSHOP in Tuscany (IT) Poderino at the Med Music School (Info: www.med-music-school.com)
The ideal workshop for all future flatpickers!
A practical (playing) workshop dealing specifically with flatpicking guitar playing. Topics will include fancy bass lines, intros & endings and breathtaking licks. The cross-picking of virtuosos such as Tony Rice and Clarence White will be analyzed in detail and a central theme will be the tasteful accompaniment of a melody line.
Practical exercises will help develop more advanced playing, whether this is Gypsy Jazz, Bluegrass flatpicking or tasteful rhythmic variations. An important focus in all exercises is to improve the use of the plectrum and flat-picking technique.
Comments from previous Oliver Waitze workshops:
In August 2010, I was able to participate in the Flatpicking Workshop with Oliver Waitze. At the same time I attended the mandolin workshop with Jesper Rübner-Petersen. In summary: It was sensational! Two pleasant and musically exceptional "teachers" in combination with friendly participants, beautiful scenery and, not least the wonderful accommodation with impressive kitchen... could not have been better!
For us it was a week that we - of course, in a positive way - never forget! Thank you Oliver, thank you Jesper, thanks to all!
I just came back from the course with Oliver Waitze and enthusiasm for Flatpicking has now infected me! Oliver is an excellent musician and a teacher who quickly imparts the fun of this music. An example of this was that, as the mandolin course with Jespert Rübner-Petersen was taking place at the same time, the jam sessions were much more interesting.
The ingenious combination of those attending the Oliver Waitze's flatpicking course with other music
students resulted great companionship. The nightly sessions were magical moments for me; these gave the musicians the opportunity to play, sing, to tell a story from your life.. I am sure that it wasn't just me that found these moments magical.
The food was perfect food, the comfortable beds and the cheerful team of Albergo kept everyone's spirits high. I was there with my wife and two small children of 4 and 6 years and all enjoyed it.
After this course, returning to normal day-to-day living is difficult.
Thanks Jesper, Thanks Oliver, Thanks to all who were there.
Oliver Waitze's Flatpicking Workshop in Poderino went so quickly! The many licks, runs and tunes from Bluegrass to Gypsy Swing left the fingertips glowing and gave us to ideas far beyond the usual
strum-strum with the plectrum. The instructional material consisted of approx. 80 pages. In addition, much to the delight of the particpants of Oliver's guitar course and those from the other (mandolin) course, Oliver jammed with us all each night.
