Bluegrass news from the Czech Republic

Petr Brandejs, chairman of the Bluegrass Association of the Czech Republic (CzBMA), reports:

The CzBMA, along with Lilly Pavlak, managed to get Eddie and Martha Adcock with Tom Gray to the 40th Banjo Jamboree in Čáslav, CZ, on 15-16 June. More shows are to be announced around Europe the following week.

A handmade dreadnought guitar made by the young Czech luthier Premysl Vecerek will be sold via Dutch auction at the Banjo Jamboree.

The CzBMA newsletter brings two reports from the winter concert of the Kruger Brothers with UNI Quartet in Europe; Bluegrass Jamboree in Prague; review of Svata Kotas Band concert (by Lilly Pavlak) in Brno; and a concert remembering late lyricist Josef Prudil with Poutnici and Traperi. Also mentioned is Festival Malinkej and the life of Wade Mainer.

After four years of silence Vabank Unit announces its comeback in a fine new lineup: Marek Mikulas (guitar, lead vocals), Petr Vosta (banjo), Karel Zacal (dobro), Vitek Hanulik (mandolin), Jaro Rakay.

Dobro wizard Henrich Novak restarted his travel agency Resotravel, dedicated especially to travelling to bluegrass precious places in the USA.

Bluegrass Cwrkot are going to record their sixth CD in early April. As usual, it will contain some original material as well as popular bluegrass standards.
