Dan Hays to step down as IBMA executive director

The board of directors of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) announced yesterday (4 Nov. 2011) that it has reluctantly accepted the resignation of IBMA's executive director Dan Hays (left), to take effect on 29 February 2012. The board expressed profound appreciation for his twenty-one years of dedicated service, his indispensable contributions to the IBMA’s efforts for professionalism within the industry, and his advocacy of bluegrass music in broader circles. The full release, with a link to a message by Dan Hays to IBMA members, can be read here or on the IBMA website.

A spokesperson for the EBMA board expressed the board's appreciation and thanks for Dan's tireless work in developing bluegrass and helping it to grow, and for his support in developing the 'I' in IBMA. Even before the EBMA was founded, Dan came to Europe in 1999 to attend, and take an active part in, the European World of Bluegrass that year. His doing so was greatly appreciated, and the experience of working with him was a pleasure.
