Thanks to Rob Curto for news of the New-York-City-based band Matuto, who mix bluegrass and Americana with Brazilian roots music such as forró, maracatu, and samba. Their music, which can be heard on the band website, uses accordion, hollow-body electric guitar, upright bass, drums, and Brazilian percussion. Members of the group have worked with Tony Trischka, Bela Fleck, Steve Martin, and fiddler April Verch.
Matuto are looking forward to their first visit as a band to Europe: they arrive on 25 Oct. 2011 to showcase at WOMEX, the world music convention, in Copenhagen, Denmark. They will subsequently play at Reigen Live, in Vienna, Austria, on 29 Oct. at 8.30 p.m. Read their press release here.
