Little Band with a new approach from Hungary

The Little Band (l-r): Péter Strausz, Gábor Szabó, István Bocskai

Thanks to Péter Strausz for news of the Little Band and its recent achievements. The band, based in Budapest, Hungary, was founded in 2009 and plays cheerful, American old-time music and gives concerts and square-dancing evenings (Abende). The founder members - István Bocskai (guitar, vocals), Gábor Szabó (violin, vocals), and Péter Strausz (bass, vocals) - added Mihály Tóth (cajon) to their number at the end of 2010.

The band's unique repertoire combines American traditional, folk, and old-time music from the 1930s and '40s with elements from Hungarian folk music, new country, and evergreens from the 1960s and '70s set to the Little Band's own arrangements.

In the last twelve months they have won third place in the trio category in the Country Music Awards in Pullman City, Germany, on 13 November 2010; played at the Ghost City Saloon for the Country & Western Freunde, Haag, Austria, in March 2011; and taken part in the EWOB Festival 2011 in the Netherlands. Video clips by the band on Youtube include 'Cocaine blues', 'Make me a pallet on the floor', and other numbers.

The band's website is in Magyar, English, and German. More information can be obtained from Péter by e-mail. The introduction on their website ends:

We just have only one request: please listen to our band's music while having some beer and decide for yourselves whether or not you've enjoyed it. We hope you will.
