Not exactly a story of European bluegrass, but certainly one of a major contribution to the bluegrass scene by Europeans - the May 2011 issue of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine carries an article by Ted Lehmann entitled 'Henri Deschamps and the Bluegrass Legacy'.
Henri Deschamps is a French citizen, born in Haiti, and a successful businessman; his wife is from an Italian family involved in the Swiss watch industry. On retirement from business, they took over the Mast Farm Inn (above) in North Carolina, USA; happened to encounter on Facebook Shelly Burleson and her husband Jason (banjo-player for Blue Highway); became devotees of bluegrass music; and have hosted house concerts and workshops at the Inn, and showcases at IBMA's World of Bluegrass 2010.
Most of all, Henri Deschamps has developed first the Bluegrass Legacy Facebook site, and now a professional version. These offer, as Ted Lehmann says in his article, 'a relatively comprehensive catalog of online information about the entire bluegrass world', offering a vast range of resources to users. Read more in Lehmann's article 'Bluegrass and social networking', which appeared on his blog on 28 Feb. 2011.
Update 9 June 2011: Henri Deschamps and the IBMA's Dan Hays will co-host a webinar on 'Getting a solid return on your investment - Prepping, attending & following up for World of Bluegrass' on 12 July 2011. Full details are here.
