Head of Bear Family to receive IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award

Richard Weize, the German-born founder of Bear Family Records, is to receive a Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) during the IBMA's World of Bluegrass 2010 (27 Sept.-3 Oct.).

Richard Weize, born in Bad Gandersheim in 1945, founded Bear Family Records in 1974. The label's output now includes over 100 boxed sets and many single CDs, with much bluegrass and traditional country material unavailable anywhere else, as well as a wide range of other music. A major article on Richard Weize and Bear Family Records by Richard F Thompson of the British Bluegrass Music Association has appeared in Bluegrass Unlimited magazine.

Sherry Boyd, Benjamin F. 'Tex' Logan, Lynn Morris, and Pete Wernick will also receive IBMA Distinguished Achievement Awards this year. A press release with further detail on the Distinguished Achievement Award recipients is here. A full list of nominees for this year's IBMA awards can be seen on the IBMA website.
