On stage at Conwy 2009: (l-r) Paolo Ercoli (dobro, vocals), Gianni Stefanini (mandolin, vocals), Pedro Judkowski (upright bass) Luca Bartolini (guitar, vocals), Gianluca Naldi (banjo, vocals)
Bononia Grass, from Bologna, Italy, have a lot of good news to report. Luca Bartolini, formerly of Red Wine, has joined them, playing guitar and singing lead. Their mandolinist, Gianni Stefanini, has won second prize in the mandolin contest at the 38th Annual Blue Grass & Old Time Fiddlers' Convention in North Carolina, USA.
For the second year running, the band have played at the North Wales Bluegrass Festival; and similarly for the second year running their dobro player, Paolo Ercoli, has been asked to give the dobro workshop there. Video clips of Bononia Grass playing at Conwy in 2008 - with Martino Coppo of Red Wine on electric bass - can be seen on Paolo's YouTube channel. They are about to take part in the European Bluegrass Festival (29 July-2 August) at La Roche-sur-Foron, in the French Alps, where they have been selected as one of the twelve bands in the 2009 band competition.
Bononia Grass also have a new website with many improvements, and are starting work on their second CD. A full account of the band's good news can be read here.
