News from France

Christopher Howard-Williams of the France Bluegrass Musique Association reports:

The Grange Rouge Masterclass in April (just north of Lyon) with Jim Hurst, Byron Berline, and Alan Munde was a huge success (see photo), as was the Grange Rouge traditional folk music weekend in June with its bluegrass evening. Ten French bands played (not all with their full contingent) and German band Foxchase, who were a highlight of the evening along with Bluegrass Deluxe (playing Thursday evening at La Roche).

The next event on the horizon is the Craponne Country Rendez-Vous (24-26 July, near Le Puy in the Auvergne region). This is mainly a country music festival but traditionally (twenty-two years now) the French bluegrass compagnie take over a section of the campsite for four days and there are always one or two great bluegrass acts.

A week later (28 July-2 August), it is La Roche Bluegrass Festival. We are looking forward to seeing many of you there for this free festival in the town centre with the French Alps as the backdrop. Thirty-five bands will be there this year, including our invited guests Carrie Hassler & Hard Rain, Chris & Sally Jones, Bob Jones [ex Blue Grass Boy] & the Bluegrass Cats, Monogram, Acousticure, and Vodopad & Philippe Naudot.
