The Toy Hearts (UK), one of Britain's hottest and most enterprising acoustic bands, have launched a new monthly bulletin of their latest news, gigs, reviews, and more. The full text of the #1 bulletin can be read here.
The band made a highly successful showcasing and networking trip to IBMA's World of Bluegrass 2008, and have continued to forge connections across the bluegrass world. Hannah Johnson (mandolin) is now the West Midlands Area Representative for the British Bluegrass Music Association; has been made a member of the IBMA International Committee; will also be an EBMA national representative; and is expecting to attend the European Bluegrass Summit in Germany in February.
Toy Hearts shows over the last few months include opening for bluegrass legends Peter Rowan, Jack Lawrence, and Tim O'Brien. Photos are on their MySpace Site, together with two new videos of their live shows at 'The Public' Arts Centre, West Bromwich. The videos are also on YouTube: 'Stronger' and 'Carolina'. The band's website is being rebuilt and will be relaunched before Christmas 2008.
The Toy Hearts were October's featured artists on ukcountry radio.com, and also appeared in both the October and November issues of the UK country magazine Maverick. Gracie Muldoon of WorldWideBluegrass gave their album When I cut loose a very favourable review, concluding:
This is one group to be watched closely - they will fast become a favorite group of yours if you're into creative music arrangements, nice sweet female vocals, and some really great picking.
The band's busy future schedule includes two new monthly gigs in their home area of Birmingham, two major French festivals (La Roche and Country Rendez-vous) in summer 2009, and a 15-date tour of Germany in December 2009 as part of the Bluegrass Jamboree package, with top USA acts the Steep Canyon Rangers and the Hunger Mountain Boys. The last words from the band:
The Toy Hearts would like to wish all our friends a wonderful festive season and we hope to see you all at some gigs in the new year.
